An iconic renovation in the heart of Porto, where pine timber restores identity, comfort and authenticity to one of the country’s most emblematic markets.

The rehabilitation of Bolhão Market is part of one of the most significant urban regeneration projects in the city of Porto. The main objective was to restore the historic character of the building while providing it with renewed functionality and long-term durability through the careful selection of materials.

CarmoWood made a decisive contribution to this project by supplying and installing nearly 10,000 m² of pine timber cladding. This solution creates a warm and natural interior environment, in harmony with the market’s traditional identity, while meeting the demands of a heavily frequented public space.

The architectural project, designed by Nuno Valentim Arquitectura, combines a contemporary approach with a strong sensitivity to heritage values. Timber played a central role in this vision, creating continuity between the history of the place and its new functional and environmental requirements.

Through this intervention, Bolhão Market has regained its vitality, becoming a modern, welcoming and durable facility without losing the popular and authentic spirit that has defined it for generations. CarmoWood’s involvement demonstrates the relevance of timber as a material of choice in large-scale public projects.
